Firefox 13.0.1 for Mac repeatedly asking to access keychain
Since I upgraded to Firefox 13 for mac, Firefox asks my permission to access confidential information in my keychain. It does it everytime I start firefox even though I click "Always Allow" each time. This did not happen with the older version. By the way, the exact message reads, "Firefox wants to use your confidential information stored in “lpsafari” in your keychain. Do you want to allow access to this item?" Is there some way to get Firefox to stop asking?
Chosen solution
It does seem to be LastPass
This seems to work for me.
Go into KeyChain Access Find lpsafari Choose get info Go to Access Control (2nd tab) Choose Allow All Applications to Access this Item Then Save Changes
It stops nagging.
However, I don't like opening access like that.
So, I went back and deleted lpsafari from the keychain.
So far, that has stopped the nagging and restarting FireFox has not regenerated an lpsafari item either.
Your results?

Hi dpolsky, Firefox itself is not using the keychain as far as I know. It might be a normal extension that is not working properly or even malware. First thing I'd suggest is disabling add-ons and turning them on one by one to find out which one is causing the issue. If that still doesn't solve the problem, try reseting Firefox: Click on "Help" in the menu bar and select "Reset Firefox".
Let us know if that solved the problem.
It is caused by my LastPass add on. When I disabled it, the keychain request went away; when I enabled it again, the request returned. I guess the "lp" in "lpsafari" stands for LastPass? In any event, am I correct to assume that this is a problem LastPass has to rectify rather than Firefox? Thanks for your help.
Yeah, they probably have the same issue as "Keychain Services Integration" with the signing process. But that is pure speculation. You should probably contact LastPass support about this problem.
Thanks.

I do not have LastPass installed. I did a long time ago, several Firefox versions ago.
When I go to a web site that I have password info stored in the KeyChain, Firefox asks several times to access the key chain for that one instance of going to that site.
For example, logging into this forum asked to access the key chain when I first got to the page before filling in the login fields. After the fields were filled in, and I clicked the Login button, Firefox asked again to access the key chain.
I'm not sure this is the same problem others are talking about in this thread.
Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Thanks for the info. This lead me to realize that the connection between Firefox and the keychain was with an add-on I had installed called Keychain Services Integration 1.1.3 by Julian Fitzell. Before seeing this in my Extensions, I was thinking that access to the KeyChain was built in to Firefox.
Anyway, on the web site for this Add-on, it says this add-on is broken in Firefox 13, and users are recommended to say with Firefox 12.
To make things worse, this add-on's home page is a blog that hasn't been posted to in years. I'll email the guy.
Thanks again.
For reference. I am not using Keychain Services Integration 1.1.3 by Julian Fitzell.
Also, the fix listed above seems to be the answer.
I sent an email to Julian, who replied right away (that's good support!) Here is his reply --
Yes, the problem of repeatedly asking you to allow is the [known] problem. The issue is being tracked here: http://code.google.com/p/mozilla-keychain/issues/detail?id=48
Mozilla started cryptographically signing their binaries in FF13, which in theory is great for us (you'll no longer get prompted to allow every time you upgrade) but unfortunately they did it in a way that's not compatible with OS 10.6. We've identified the problem and a solution and I'm hoping they're going to be able to get the fix in in time for FF14. Unfortunately there's little more we can do until they do so.
If you feel like getting your hands a bit dirty, there is a work around involving resigning the binary yourself - instructions are at the above link. Otherwise, just roll back to FF12 and wait for them to the fix the problem.
