keeps popping in Not Responding constantly and is very hesitant

Constantly getting a 'Not Responding' after Mozilla Firefox top bar. It comes back and then on again over and over. Very hesitant can type a sentence and then have to sit and wait for it to show on the computer screen. I am not technology inclined just a little old lady who enjoys her computer, but not at the moment as it is a bit of an annoyance.

This has been going on for a few days now and I don't know what to do.
