It seems like every time I get a new version of firefox my tab apps and groups disappear. Why does this happen and what can I do about it?

You should see that button on the tab bar once you have created a tab group.
If you can't find it then open the customize window and drag the Tab Groups button from the toolbar palette on a toolbar.

Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"

App (pinned) tabs and Tab Groups (Panorama) are stored as part of the session data [1] in the file sessionstore.js [2] in the Firefox profile folder [3].

Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

You can use "Show my windows and tabs from last time", that is usually a more reliable way to restore session data.

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

col-el,

I never "clear recent history" so I don't know what's been happening. Maybe I should save the sessionstore.js file so the next time it happens I can restore it. Also, is there suppose to be a icon for Groups somewhere? I don't seem to have one. What menu bar is it suppose to be on?

Thanks, Mike

Hi, My settings are as described and have been for a long time and number of versions. However whenever there is a update to firefox everything goes, including app tabs and other opened tabs.

I think something should be done about this as it's very frustraighting to have to start again setting evverything up, and remembering everything I had pinned & open whenever there is an update.
