After updating from 3.6.8 (or 9) to 3.6.10 FF now crashes within a few seconds of opening. I have tried starting in Safe Mode, but it still crashes. I have uninstalled and re-installed a few times, but that does not make any difference.

I also have 4.0 version 6 beta installed in a separate folder. This ran OK in parallel with 3.6.8, but since updating there seem to be problems with shortcuts sometimes pointing to the beta version and sometimes the 3.6.10 following uninstall and re-install.

I reported this a few days ago, but cannot find any trace of the report, so am trying again.

Your crash report indicates that a file in the profile is corrupt, it appears to be crashing when reading the file that stores bookmarks. Try deleting the places.sqlite file as shown in this article - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Locked_or_damaged_places.sqlite

After deleting that file, Firefox will re-create it and import the bookmarks from a backup file.

Are you using the same profile folder for the 2 different versions of Firefox? If you are that can cause problems and you should use different profiles. The 2 versions of Firefox may be stored in different places, but by default they will use the same profile folder (location where user data is stored).

Belated thanks for this reply. Somehow it got lost in all the other postings.

In the end I did a full delete of 3.6.10 and FF4 beta and then a clean install of 3.6.10.

As you may see from a separate posting I made today, this fixed the start-up problem (almost certainly by clearing the bookmark corruption), but since updating to 3.6.11 I have more problems (and none of the developer add-ins for 3.6.10 ever worked correctly).

Thanks though. If you have any ideas on my latest problem I would like to we them.
