Following the last upgrade to Thunderbird 78.10, new emails into my inbox are invisible, but a search says they are in the inbox and the inbox total says they are there, but they stil cannot be seen. Doing a folder repair via the folder properties, all the emails are visible. Moving them to another folder, they remain visible, but to close that folder and open again and the email is invisible until another folder repair is done. Extremely frustrating and troublesome. Is there any way that I can go back to the previous version, in order to get out of this dilemma? Many thanks,

Sounds like there is either corruption, or something is interfering in the indexing process. Try one of the following in an attempt to determine the cause:

  • Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled". If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.
  • Restart the operating system in safe mode with Networking. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, OSX
If safe mode for the operating system fixes the issue, there's other software in your computer that's causing problems. Possibilities include but not limited to: AV scanning, virus/malware, background downloads such as program updates.

Matt, Many thanks for your suggestions which I was about to implement, when the problem appears to have cleared up of its own accord, but I am keeping the suggestions close to hand in case the problem manifests itself again. Once again, many thanks for your help.
