W 10 updated today. Now Tbird downloads messages repeatedly. Never happened before. I reinstalled version 68.2.2 of Thunderbird - set account to POP (so that it will not delete emails on computer if I delete them on the server) -which is how I had it before. Replaced popstate.dat.file. Repaired inbox. No change after a day of trying. It still downloads all messages from the server inbox each time. I also notice that although I have set up filters to sort messages on the inbox these keep disappearing. Either W 10 did Thunderbird in or somehow one or more parts of the system have been corrupted. I have the Thunderbird profile on a separate hard drive as it has been for well over a decade without any issues. I am out of ideas and v frustrated. Help appreciated.

Do you mean you are seeing duplicates in the Inbox or is the Inbox empty if you start up Thunderbird in offline mode? Do you see extra 'popstate.dat' files in profile; some with a number? Is the 'popstate.dat' file set as 'read-only' in it's 'Properties'?

Do you use an Anti-Virus product or CCleaner and is it scanning Thunderbird profile on other drive?

In default location (not where you have profile) 'Thunderbird' folder, there will be 'profiles.ini' file. C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird Open 'profiles.ini' with Notepad and post image showing contents.

In the usual default location where Thunderbird normally creates profiles, is there a default profile that has that pop mail account in it? C:\Users\<Windows user name>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\<Profile name>\ Mail\pop mail account name

Test: Start computer in 'Safe Mode with Networking', then start Thunderbird and report on results.
