I am using Thunderbird 60.5.3. I have several email accounts. I want to set one of these as the default email account--the account is not the first account that I installed in Thunderbird. I can't find anything that provides the instructions to do this. The one response dealing with this issue does not help as what is said is not the same as what I am seeing in the version of Thunderbird that I am using. My operating system is Windows 8.1. Please provide a list of steps needed to accomplish this.

Chosen solution

Tools/Account Settings, select an account in the left pane, click Account Actions at the bottom of the left pane, Set as Default. Press Alt if the Menu Bar and Tools are hidden.

If the Account Settings window doesn't look right, run TB in safe mode (hold Shift when you launch TB).

To christ1: Sorry for not responding earlier but I have been away from my computer for most of yesterday and today. The reply from sfhowes was what I was looking for. I have many email accounts and wanted to set as default one that was not at the top of the list of accounts.

FWIW, as of Version 60.7.0 the Account Settings option is now found under Preferences, not Tools.
