Firefox 47.0.1 is not the current Release as the current Firefox Release for Windows is 48.0.2

The way Firefox updates are done has not changed as updates are done internally in Firefox (with a .mar type of file) whether on Windows, Mac OSX or Linux or by download from mozilla.org like say www.mozilla.org/firefox/all

However if this was a random name website claiming to have a urgent Firefox update with a firefox-patch.js file then this was not from Mozilla or the Firefox browser.

This doesn't sound like a familiar message. Normally when you install Firefox the updater service runs quietly in the background and doesn't require intervention -- that's the whole point of the service. So you may be seeing something unusual or suspicious. Could you post a screen shot of the message the next time you see it? This article has tips on capturing a screenshot: How do I create a screenshot of my problem? Please cut out or blur any sensitive information in the image before attaching it to your reply.

I am getting the Thunderbird Software Update and Firefox Software Update pop up whenever I open both applications. The Popup contains the following information: User Account Control

Thunderbird Software Update

Verified Publisher Mozilla Corporation File Origin Hard Drive on this computer

etc......

I suspect this is not valid. How do I disable/remove this application?
