Other bookmarks on bookmarks toolbar
I'm running FIrefox 28 on Ubuntu 14.04 I cannot get "Other Bookmarks" to appear on my bookmarks toolbar When I open the toolbar customization, I can put the Bookmarks button on my toolbar (or on the main navigatoin toolbar) but as soon as I leave customize, it simply disappears.

THE SOLUTION IS:
- go to "about:config"
- search for the item "ui.use_unity_menubar"
- toggle the value to FALSE
- it is now possible to find "MenuBar" in the View>Toolbars menu and when you right-click in the tab strip.
- by unchecking "Menu Bar", the Firefox Button is activated, menus are off, and Bookmarks button becomes visible

You usually only see the Bookmarks Menu button with the drop-down list when the menu bar is hidden.
- Firefox menu button > Options/Preferences
- View > Toolbars (press F10 to display the hidden Menu bar)
- Right-click empty toolbar area
On Ubuntu with the Unity interface that shows the menu bar at the top of the window this might be different.
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
I tried running in safe mode and there is no difference.
With Ubuntu Unity there is no ability to turn menus off/on. The toolbar view options only show "Navigation toolbar", "Bookmarks toolbar" and "Add-on bar" (and "Customise" of course).

Yes, I understand that turning off the menus will make Other Bookmarks appear -- that's the way I have run Firefox previously, on Ubuntu 12.04
The problem is, with Ubuntu 14.04 and Firefox 28.0 there IS NO WAY to turn off the menus. Neither right-click in the tab strip nor View menu in menus has an option to enable/disable the menus. (see screenshots attached)

That add-on initially looked hopeful, but turns out it doesn't solve the problem.
That add-on just give you a button which brings up your Bookmarks Toolbar items; it does not give Other Bookmarks.
So the problem remains unresolved
You can click the Options entry at the bottom of the drop-down list and click the "All Bookmark items" radio button to see all the bookmarks (default is "Just Bookmarks toolbar items").
Ah! -- OK, I hadn't seen that option. This add-on does indeed offer a possible solution.
However, I have now determined how to solve the problem without using that add-on. See below ...

I would still assume that support for prefs like that one about unity are added by one of the Ubuntu extensions that show in the System Details List.
