You click the Start Button, select all programs, navigate to Thunderbird, right click Thunderbird and select send to desktop(create a shortcut)
Thunderbird is not in programs. Thanks for your reply.
You could re-install it.

Your data is stored separately, in the profile so won't be affected by a re-install.
Then it looks like you need more than just the icon shortcut. Reinstall the program like suggested above.

I recently installed Windows 7 Pro on new hard drive. Finally got Thunderbird working with old profile. Thought I could get a fresh install by uninstalled Thunderbird and reinstalling. After uninstall desktop short cut icon was left with no association assigned to it, so I deleted it, and restarted computer. I then reinstalled Thunderbird and the short cut icon still has no program association assigned to it. The rest of the program works fine.I get an error message that says cannot find: %Program%\MozillaThunderbird\thunderbird.exe. If I open the Program Files folder TB is not displayed, if I open Program Files (x86) TB is there and if I open Mozilla TB, the thunderbird application file shows no association assigned to the icon either. How can I get the proper icon association to display?

I just observed this for the second time. My thunderbird icon is ok. but when I update firefox to the latest version, my TB icon gets trashed in the process.
A generic icon is still there and it still opens thunderbird, but it is NOT THE THUNDERBIRD ICON! It is ONLY a windows default Icon graphic. When I right click on the icon and bring up the option to "change icon" I get an error message something to the effect that "thunderbird.exe" cannot be found.
Re-Installing TB restores the icon for me on Win7 Pro 64 bit. but the next time I upgrade firefox, I bet it will get trashed again.
