Why push add-ons like 1-click download? Every restart brings it up.

1-Click Download is "pushed" in its own tab every time I start Firefox. I'm liable to quit "starting Firefox" unless this can be stopped. The message equates to, Oh boy! Here's the greatest news on Earth: You are ready to get started! Version 2.0.9 - FireFox 22.* Compatible. I don't want this or any other sales crap being pushed at me, Firefox 22 compatible or NOT. WHAT DOES IT TAKE (besides switching to Safari or Chrome) TO STOP THIS?

Why did you install the addon then? Contact the devs of the addon about that issue. Also create a new profile, if the new profile works transfer some stuff from the old one (if you want to).

hello, please try to reset firefox and see if this can address the issue...

"Restarting Firefox" CAUSES the issue. Somewhere there's a switch or cookie that says, "when FFx starts or re-starts, open a new tab and tell the user that 1-Click Video is ready for download." I DON'T WANT THIS TO HAPPEN AGAIN.

my recommendation was to reset firefox, not to restart...

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Update to firefox 23 also ,if you have Internet explorer 8 installed? you may be able to go to add or remove programs and see if its there and remove it. another why is go to history and if you see it there .you may or can delete it. Be sure it,s not attached to any important program. I've used ask.com how to remove items from Firefox and IE. If you word it right ? Ask.com will find a solution. If all else fails backup your programs and delete firefox and then reinstall it and it should do it. Once you've used ask.com? remove it!

Why did I "install the add-on then?" That's the point, I didn't install the add-on.

This is Dittoman 51 again. Do your self a favor and get to know firefox by a tour of it web pages. Nothings more useful than getting to know your programs. you'll find alot of items to help you out. Good Luck!!!

Um actually addons are made by third party developers, so your response is wrong, nor do any of us work for Mozilla (volunteers). Get to know the reset Firefox feature, it works.

Resetting Firefox didn't help; it (the "Download Flash... tab) is back. I've lost all my add-ons and still have the problem. I made a list prior to the reset but "Search all Add-Ons" results does not include them all, plug-ins and extensions both. Oops.

Thanks, but what does resetting FFx accomplish? Is there a build-up of "stuff" gathered through browsing that generates inefficiencies that slow things down or mines data?

more options

Nope im not sure what it is, but the reset usually fixes most problems while keeping Bookmarks, history, passwords, etc. The only thing lost are custom preferences and addons.

Maybe you need to create another profile (see my earlier posts) and or delete any related programs from the mac uninstaller program (installed thru the whole system, no in Firefox's control).

The question should have read, "Why are there push add-ons... ." I didn't mean why does Mozilla push add-ons. I appreciate all the effort and answers; nothing has changed. I'll live with having to close that friggin' tab every time I open FFx or... ?

could you go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, copy the contents of that page and paste them here into a reply on the forum? this might give us a clue what is going on...

Mozilla doesnt push addons or forces you to have them, they are a option made by third party developers and reviewed by Mozilla. I would also like to hear if the new profile worked before proceeding.

I guess I miss read your message. Alot of time when we down load software, some of these programs carry written viruses. hard to catch. Should this add on defies removal. You may have to find a all purpose software to get it to eliminate it. But I have found that getting to know your programs much more helpful before you download any program. and since you said you did not download this add on then it may have came through when your firewall was down or when you loaded a anti-virus and your computer is not protected.Yes resetting Firefox could work but if it's in your registery.you'll need to have it removed first. Let someone experienced do the removal. Or go to a Well known comp store, with repair techs. The last thing you want to do is acting like you don't need help, be honest and they may help you very cheaply.

I've said to much already, just trying to let you know what to ex.pect as I've had go thru. I hope I've not confused you? If I have just delete my messages. It's ok.1..

Sorry I do not use Mac s. I normally use Linux, or have Windows available if I am trying to investigate Windows problems.

I am guessing either you have some type of globally installed adware on the system. Something that is possibly unusual on a Mac.

Or it relates to how you connect to the Internet. Have you changed the Internet provider. Or changed the Firefox proxy settings ?

I appreciate your effort but telling me you don't have experience or need to guess about this stuff clutters up the page. Don't misunderstand; I appreciate your email. It's not unlike a post at a cooking site "I'm going to try THAT one one of these days... and on."

Here's another that popped up when I removed "tab preview". I can't imagine Mozilla tolerating this stuff... thanks again, js
