Ever since I installed Avg free 2012 I have been forced to put up with Avg isearch appearing on every single page which I did not have previously I absolutely hate when something is imposed on me and I think it it totally unfair that I dont have the final say on whether I want it or not. I would appreciate it very much if your team could provide a solution to this problem as I cannot find one myself. I have tried to remove this several ways none of which worked. I have disabled the addon, uninstalled Avg free 2012, went through the Avg settings and disabled linkscanner and all of its settings and I am still stuck with it. I would have asked Avg to help but you can only get help from avg if you have a paid version of Avg and besides Avg is probably benefiting in some way. I typed youtube and the window address bar returned: http://isearch.avg.com/search?cid=%7Bab7f8f1d-568b-443e-90b9-c7517ba5f649%7D&mid=26d73d20be7247d1b7acd16f6b948aa4-56940bc882bc5afd7a8a09149449efc60dfa3b03&ds=AVG&lang=en&v=8.0.0.34&pr=fr&d=2011-09-01%2010%3A57%3A31&sap=dsp&q=youtube

Here is the very simple solution to remove AVG secure search from Firefox. 1. Go to Firefox "Help". 2. Click "Restart with Add-ons Disabled" 3. Click "Restart". 4. The browser will close and a pop-up box will open. 5. Select "Reset all user preferences to Firefox defaults". 6. Click "Make Changes and Restart".

That should do it.

I was able to reset the address bar search to google by doing #2 here: http://maketecheasier.com/6-tips-and-tricks-for-firefox-address-bar/2010/04/18

I'm not sure how to change the 'new tab' window back to blank instead of avg search, but I'm sure it's a similar procedure. Installing plugins to change the new tab page did not help.

Follow steps below:

1. Type in the address bar about:config

2. Click at button - I'll be careful, I promise

3. Type below keyword in the filter box : browser.startup.homepage

4. Double click at "value" field, place your desire url or just delete to show blank page

5. Click 'OK'

6. That's all

If you are trying to remove the AVG search bar, just click on the --icon-- to the left of "AVG" in the search bar. A drop box will show and click on your choise of search. For example, for me, I chose Google. And it will change. That's it.

Won't this disable forever all the other previously installed add-ons? I wouldn't like this to happen.

I do most of my searches by typing directly into the URL box. So whenever I search, I get the "isearch" crap that everyone hates. The following will set your search in the URL box back to default.

1) In the URL box, type "about:config" 2) Usually, a popup will appear "This might void your warranty." Select "I'll be careful, I promise." 3) Find "keyword.url" 4) Right click the "keyword.url" and click "Modify" 5) Delete the "isearch...." crap and click "Ok"

This will not disable any addons or anything, it just sets your search back where it belongs.

Done!! Enjoy!

If you try Angeleumbra's solution and it doesn't work by just clearing the "value" field... you can modify it and enter http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q= and this will change your address bar search to Google.
