Don't know what else to tell you as I am a "load and use" person with no knowledge of hor this stuff works.

== upon clicking the Firefox window to upgrade to the latest Firefox version which, I think, might be 3.6.3 but I' m not sure of that.

According to your posting info, you are using Firefox 3.6.3, which is currently the latest version, so you okay on that front.

"cannot find AVGIDAgent" sounds like you have AVG anti-virus or firewall installed. If you go to Tools > Add-ons > Extensions are there any AVG extensions installed? If so, try disabling them.

I,m not sure my reply went through. this is the first time I am using this service and when I tried to send a reply, this screen came back - seemingly asking, again, if my attemp at your suggested solution solved the problem - which it didn't as I could not get to all the AVG lines you said to go to after going to "Tools". If you got my earlier reply, please excuse me as this is my first try at requesting this type of help. Thanks for your effort so far.

Try AVG support for help with that. Firefox uses 3 digit error codes, so that 4 digit code is more than likely from AVG,
