Firefox doesn't crash but when I close down it says it has and I get a window with a message asking for my e-mail address and it says it will reply when it has more info. Is this genuine?

A shutdown crash is still a crash and can be bad for various reasons.
The most common cause of a crash on exit or improper shutdown is extensions.

For us to look at your crash report, submit a crash report (email address is optional), then:
- Go to about:crashes in the Location Bar.
- Copy the blue links (beginning with bp-) and paste them here.
