Can I have more than 8 themes added?
In the older version of Firefox, you could install as many themes as you liked. But version 3.6.3, it seems you can only add 8 other than the default theme. I would like to know if I can add more than 8 themes. I did not know this and recently added new themes which replaced the old ones I had.

Just now, I tried installing more than 8 themes and it worked. You may be having a problem with some extension or plugin that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
If this doesn't help, can you provide a screenshot of any error message or weird behavior that appears?
I assume that you mean Personas. There is currently a maximum of 8 personas. If you want more then install the Personas extension.

Tried installing a number of themes today. Probably 12 in total. No error message was displayed. When I returned to the "Add On" page, the Theme listing only kept that last 8 that I installed.

That is indeed as you said. Immensely weird. Can you please try it in a new (temporary) Firefox profile and see if the issue is still present? See this article to know how to create a new Firefox profile. Please report back the results.
New Profile, same problem.
As before, I can't reproduce this issue on my side, either with my own profile or with a new one. If, in your case, the new profile also has the problem, it points to an external factor that's triggering the bug. It's either a plugin (that get ported between profiles and are external to the browser, try disabling them all to check) or some kind of firewall/antivirus/security suite that's messing with Firefox... One thing's almost for sure: it's not something you can fix from inside Firefox if a new profile has the same problem.
That is by design. Only the last 8 personas are kept. As soon as you install the ninth then one of the others is removed. Personas are not stored on your computer, but are saved as a pref "lightweightThemes.usedThemes" in JSON object format.

Sigh... Yet another misunderstand all due to misused nomenclature... All cleared up then. Themes, Personas... They're not exactly the same thing.
