Google maps blacks out about 5 seconds after opening, but not in safe mode. I have disabled all plug--ns, reinstalled Firefox but no change. Works fine Win 10

As above. Just recently (obviously) just upgraded to Windows 10, certainly did not have did not have the problem with Windows 7. firefox does not actually crash, the map just goes plain black with just the search bar, the earth icon bottom left and the street view and zoom controls showing bottom right

Could you check whether updates are available for your Intel graphics chip? This article suggests safe way to do that: Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL.

As a short term workaround, you could try disabling Firefox from using hardware acceleration:

"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"

This takes effect the next time you exit Firefox and start it up again. Any difference?

disabling hardware acceleation does seem to work now ( I had tried it before with no success) but the Intel driver Update Utility does not find any updates for me. Any other suggestions please?

Hmm, it does seem that they haven't issued new software after 2013, if this page has the latest: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/search?keyword=Intel%C2%AE+G41+Express+Chipset

I can't think of any immediate quick fixes. Hopefully the developers will improve compatibility in a future release.

ok, thanks for your input anyway.
