Crash ID: bp-2eca7b52-28cb-4804-9d91-cc9962150401

Was using Firefox with no problems. Closed it, started working in PhotoImpact Pro, then reopened Firefox. It crashed before starting. Tried solutions from the net, nothing worked. It wouldn't start in Safe Mode, tried refreshing it, did a clean install. Still crashed. I'm running Windows 8.1 64-bit.

This is a new crash signature that is appearing in Firefox 37. The exact cause is not yet known, but one suspect is a theming program called WindowBlinds from Stardock. If you are using one of their themes for Windows instead of one of the built-in themes, this kind of crash occurs. If you can change to one of the built-in themes, try that.

If that issue is not applicable to you, you might need to switch back to Firefox 36.0.4 until a workaround is available. Here's how:

(1) Download the installer for Firefox 36.0.4 using a working browser. You can find a link in this article: Install an older version of Firefox.

(2) Rename the program folder

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Firefox37

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\Firefox37

(3) Run the installer you downloaded in #1. It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Does Firefox 36.0.4 start up?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that Firefox37 folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \Firefox37\Plugins
  • \Firefox37\browser\plugins

Have you recently updated firefox?

You can find that info in the crash report (just follow the link in the original post; it may take a while to load, however).

Is this how i should go about rolling back to firefox version 36.0.4 ? I have a similar issue here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1054971

Hi shadyz, yes, that's my preferred way to roll back. It sounds like you were able to make a backup of your profile folder -- that's good since you are dealing with a data loss issue and you don't want to make it worse.

Many many thanks! I do have Windowblinds on my PC and had no idea it was the culprit because Firefox continued to crash even when I disabled Windowblinds. Anyway, installing Firefox 36.0.4 fixed everything perfectly. I will keep a lookout for future patches or newer versions than 37 with hopes I can use it with Windowblinds.
