Firefox crashes after upgrading to version 29 (again)
Hi all,
since upgrading to Version 29(.0.1) I have lots of trouble starting firefox. Today it crashes with the crash reports below.
I have to following crash IDs: bp-c91af26c-d657-45c2-9741-c4da32140513 bp-44dbdbd7-a69e-42ab-9050-aeb502140513 bp-244df326-8d3e-438f-b35d-f7eaf2140513 bp-5b76894b-9fce-46d4-bf86-35e2c2140513 bp-81430263-e064-4795-aeb1-a3b5f2140513 bp-095a28d1-9c34-4238-bf2f-0aaaf2140513
Some of these crashes also happened after removing the profiles folder and profile.ini file. A profile was created again, but firefox does not start up anyway. I also tried safemode without a profile.
Some more history:
I've tried to upgrade from v26 to 29 about a week ago, but that did not work either: after upgrading to v29 firefox did not start, it didn't even show up the crash reporter. (I reinstalled v26 without uninstalling firefox, and it worked again).
The following steps lead to have a working v29 yesterday:
- Uninstalling v26 including the user data
- manually removing my profile (!) although it should have been removed in the first step
- manually removing the program files under C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- reboot
- installing firefox 29.0.1 (not the stub but the full version)
This version was working the whole day, I also reinstalled some plugins, restarted the browser and everything was fine. After that, some Windows updates where installed: KB2964358, KB2952664. Today, the crashes above happen.
Thanks for help!

And now I am asking myself why the crash reports show Firefox Version 26. Even the platform.ini shows milestone 26. I had the new layout, so it was v29 for sure. But certainly a v29 setup does not work with v26 program files...
In this case, you are forced to look at bit by bit, which add-ons cause the crashes.
@zoli62: As you can see in the crash reports, I've tried it with new profiles and without installing any extensions (which you mean by "add-ons" I suppose).
I've reinstalled version29 again with the steps above (updating did not work again) and it works with my old profile again. I'll try to do some rebooting etc. and check again what happens...
In this case i suggest you try out the stable ESR release. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/faq/ Send a bug report to bugzilla.
I was just able to reproduce the "automated" downgrade from 29.0.1 to 26.0: When I pin firefox to the start menu, it resets my version by modifying some of the files including platform.ini.
