Since FF V29 installed this morning, all the URLs are hidden in coloured bars in the FF address bar, usually black and/or grey. It is like the url is redacted. Linux Mint 16 XFCE. I can copy the invisible address text and paste it.

The Mozilla Foundation(US) identifier on this page is in a bar the text colour, but if I roll the cursor over it the text appears. That doesn't happen with the url.

I've tried starting FF in safe mode - no change.

I've tried changing the browser.urlbar.formatting in about:config - no change

This started immediately with the V29 install.

Thanks for any help.

Keazen oplossing

I have the same problem with a new version installed on lubuntu 14.04, then I installed various complete themes and all the same, but with one theme the problem was solved, the theme is FXChrome and the probem with de urls' was solved, I think that is causing the problem is the new australis theme

Can you provide a screen shot of the screen with this issue.

It took me a bit to figure out how to do a screen shot in Linux Mint, the Print Screen button doesn't work. Anyway, while doing that, the problem briefly disappeared. Re-started the computer, and it's back.

Here's the screen shot.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

As I said in my first post, I already tried Safe Mode with no change.

FF is in Default appearance mode.

Edit: I've just discovered if I use a link in a page, and then the back button, the url in the address bar is normal in the previous page. Refreshing a page does not change anything.

Thanks jorgelucho! The FXChrome theme fixed it.

With the other problems I've been recently having with Firefox I think I'll just use Chrome, rather than the look alike FF.

SOLVED on my old pentium M laptop running Lubuntu 14.04

To fix in Firefox 29:

  • type about:config[Enter]
  • Promise to be careful
  • In the Search Bar type gfx.xrender.enabled
  • Right-click (F12) and Toggle to make it false
  • Exit Firefox. Open Firefox again.
