after reboot firefox won't start. runs in task manager, but won't pop up. reset, safe mode and uninstall/re-install won't help. ok if no reboot.
win7 Pro. has been running firefox ok. but lately with 25 and now 26, the firefox won't start. I can see firefox is running in task manager. but it just won't pop up. if I download it again and install it, it will run, but every time I reboot the system, it just won't run again. try: reset, safe mode, uninstall & reinstall, new/clean profile, none of those work.

@123fox:
start -> Control Panel -> Programs & functions - find: Authentec Driver for Lenovo (or something similar). You have to know that this driver is responsible for fingerprint login on your lenovo. Try to find on lenovo website for this driver before uninstall and if you use fingerprint login just download it and install original from lenovo site.

I have a friend who is having the exact same problem, and he is also using a Lenovo laptop. so I believe you are on the right direction, but I need to know which driver and how to uninstall it. other than the automatically updates from the Lenovo Center, we haven't done any thing manually.
so, if I m not using the fingerprint authentication, it is ok for me to remove it, right ?tks
MistaBungle: thank you very much! it seems like working so far after 2 reboots and 2 shutdown/power-up. it is the "Authen Tec" fingerprint authentication program which was some how auto-installed in Nov 2013.
tks again !
Installing new drivers didn't do it but I disable the fingerprint reader and now firefox works after reboot. Thanks.
I have just the same problem and I get the same error with the script chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:2406 I have a Lenovo E530, Windows 7 64bit, using Microsoft Security Essentials. I've tried to reinstall Firefox, but the problem still occurs after a reboot.
Since I've disabled the fingerprint reader in device manager I haven't had the problem.
I am encountering the same issues, just saw the script showing the type of error. Using Lenovo E430 with fingerprint auth for system log in only. Problem only started end of last year, seemingly with a update that happened. Complete system restore did not help. Now trying to trouble shoot the finger reader as the culprit.
Disabling the fingerprint reader in the device manager did not help my issue.
Had the same problem.
Fixed it by updating the "Lenovo Fingerprint Read/Password Vault for Windows" driver and software to version 6.0.200.105 date 2 Sep 2013.
If you need to determine the "Machine Type" and "Model" for you Lenovo laptop go to: Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Information : "System Model". For my Thinkpad Edge E530 the first 4 digits were the Machine Type, the last 3 digits were the Model.
I had previously disabled the fingerprint reader: Start->Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Biometric Devices->Change Settings : "Biometrics Off"
Those of you where the problem was apparently due to Lenovo's fingerprint reader does this work ok still in Firefox 26 ?
I ask this because in another thread (/questions/983840#answer-526465) this error is being seen again, apparently even after the Fingerprint reader has been disabled, in Firefox 26.
I just solved this problem without removing the Authentec driver. I have a Lenovo E430 with the latest Fingerprint reader driver. Win 7-64. Things were ok until I reinstalled the Fingerprint driver due to another issue. Then Firefox (latest) would no longer start.
Eventually get the error chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:2406
From reading other responses it seems one can install the latest HP Simplepass utility (apparently from the same Authentec codebase). This apparently works even on Lenovo hardware.
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=277904
However I didn't want to do this. So what I did is go to Program Files/Lenovo Fingerprint Reader and rename the file
npffwloplugin.dll
to npffwloplugin.dll.disable
(this apparently is the firefox plugin) Problems with firefox disappeared immediately after a reboot.
At some point I will probably install SimplePass but this works for now.

Note that this likely still leave a registry entry in a location where Firefox scans for plugins.
iantor, Thanks for posting your solution, So what I did is go to Program Files/Lenovo Fingerprint Reader and rename the file npffwloplugin.dll to npffwloplugin.dll.disable
Note: For others reading, the issue is mentioned in MozillaZine's article, http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser_will_not_start_up ... under the section, Problematic plugin prevents browser from starting
