As you can see below I have a ton of opening bookmarks. I rearrange them regularly, adding and removing them as my interest grows or wanes. Over the last week, maybe two, Firefox stopped letting me change the list. It took a while to notice, but over the last couple days I've been tearing my hair out trying to fix it. It's also started not letting me change which accounts I have logged in to Google+, I don't know if that's related or not.

I have tried resetting the list to default. I've tried leaving it blank. I've tried deleting preference files. I've tried resetting Firefox entirely. Every time I load Firefox it resets the Homepage list to what it was before. I'm getting pretty frustrated. Do I need to delete Firefox and reinstall it from scratch, or is there something else I can try?

Thanks.

If Firefox isn't shutting down correctly, your settings changes during your session might not be fully saved.

Could you check in the Advanced SystemCare software (outside of Firefox) and turn off its browser-protection-related features to see whether that makes a difference?

Note that your System Details List shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize some prefs on each start of Firefox.

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created it, so normally it wouldn't be there. you can check its content with a plain text editor if you didn't create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read each time you start Firefox and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

If you do not keep changes after a restart or otherwise have problems with preferences, see:

You can delete the user.js file.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

Note that you have an Advanced SystemCare Surfing Protection extension listed in your System Details List that might be part of the problem and might be protecting some settings against changes.
So you may have to check out the settings in this software.

I tried those already. The Advanced System Care thing might be the ticket, though, I'll try that. Thanks.

Ok, I tried disabling the extension, but no dice. Same result as before.

Also, every time I shut down Firefox and go to restart it, I have to go into the Task Manager to kill it first because it's still running somehow. I don't know if that's related, but it's sure annoying when trying to solve this problem.

Use "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit) to close Firefox if you are currently doing that by clicking the close X on the Firefox title bar.

Ok, I found that ASC does in fact have a Homepage Protection setting, I had no idea that was in there. I'll disable that and see if it does the trick.

I'll look into the hang-at-exit fixes too.

Thanks!

Turning off the ASC Homepage Protection did the trick, guys, thanks so much, I never would have thought of that.
