IE View add-on not working properly
I have the IE view add-on installed (version 1.5.6) in order to always open and run Microsoft Updates in IE. This works in that, when I select Microsoft Update from my Bookmarks, an IE window opens. BUT that window then tells me that I need to be running IE version 5 or above and thus Update cannot work - BUT BUT BUT, I am running IE version 7. So it seems to me that IE View is not working properly. How can I correct this?? I cannot find any Help on the IE home site.
I am running Windows XP with SP3; Firefox V 23.0.1; and IE View 1.5.6

You are running under Windows XP. The latest/last version of IE for XP is IE8; IE9 and higher will not run under XP.
- Strongly suggest you update to IE8 - http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie-8
I have never used IE View. Instead I use IE Tab 4.0.20130422. I just used it yesterday to run Microsoft Update. I had to make a change from another similar add-on to this add-on within the past year as the previous add-on that I was using stopped working also. My suggestion to you: consider uninstalling IE View, since it is not working for you, and install IE Tab. Additionally, the product that I use does not have that "shopping price comparison" option as does IE View; I consider that "spyware".
- Use the following link for IE Tab 4.0.20130422 as there are several similarly named add-ons - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ie-tab/

Why not go straight to Control Panel>Windows Update? There is no need to use either Firefox or Internet Explorer. If I were you I would update to at least IE9. I'm using IE View 1.5.6 with IE 10 without problems.

Thanks for the idea, Alan, but as Firefox is my default browser, that route opens Firefox and thus to IE View (because I have IE View set to always open Microsoft Update in IE). And no, I don't want to change back to IE as my default browser!!
Have you tried to open Windows Update in IE (not IE view)? Just start IE and go to the address of your FF bookmark.
Also you should update IE for security reasons.
Hi there Yes, I can indeed open Microsoft Update straight from IE and indeed have done so, because IE View is not working. The problem is not about how to get to Microsoft Update, it is why is IE View not working the way it is supposed to. I can get to Microsoft Update several ways, that is not my concern right now. If IE View does not work with IE V7, then surely this must be an issue for others? - I can't be the only person in the world still running IE V7? It's because I only use IE for M/S updates, I haven't bothered to update beyond V 7. If I need V9 or V10 to make IE View work, that seems rather strange - why should V9 or V10 be able to tell IE View that it is not less then V5, but V7 of IE cannot? Weird!!

Thanks Old Fox. J have deleted IE View and installed IE Tab and it worked first time. Now need to think whether I can be bothered to update IE to V8.
