Purchased 3 videos and downloaded them. After download each immediately opened and played as normal. Several days later, went back to use them and they wouldn't open.

When I right-clicked on them the "open" and "open as" was greyed out. I had an intact path so I was able to recover them. As soon as I tried to play them again, the same thing happened. Checked other downloaded files and several are like this.

1. How can I prevent this from happening in the future ?

2. How can I recover the files that I do not have intact paths to?

If Open and Open Containing Folder in the right-click context menu in the Download Manager window are grayed then that means that the file is no longer in the original download location.

The file may have been removed by cleanup or anti-virus software if it was there before.

Did you check possible log files created by your anti-virus software?

This isn't sounding like a firefox issue. Do you have anti0virus software that is causing this? Have you run a check disk?

more options

have superspyware antivirus, pc tools, malwarebytes, abloock plus.

Could any of these cause it, sure. Do I want to disable any of these, NO. I've had lots of trouble with viruses and need all the protection I can get. I have the videos available in the original e-mails but would like to move them to a seperate file on my desktop. I'm afraid to do this since I also have a problem that I have been trying for a month to get a solution to because of lack of support from Yahoo, Firefox, etc. I shouldn't have to be a genious computer programmer to use these services. (sorry for the rant but i'm very frustrated)

Don't know how to run checkdisc

Thanks in advance for your help...

Just so you know, none of those are full anti-virus programs ;) I'd suggest uninstalling PC-Tools and SuperAntispyware, and install Microsoft Security Essentials.http://microsoft.com/security_essentials It's no wonder you've had problems with viruses ;)

After doing that, I'd try to run a check disk. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315265. Then update Windows all the way, and try to redownload the files.

Microsoft Essentials let me catch the most impossible to remove virus I've ever seen. I have to take my PC to a friend who is a pro. He had to wipe the whole memory to get rid of it.

Had ME when I caught the virus first time. Needless to say, I don't have a lot of confidence in ME.

I caught it again and Malwarebytes was able to remove it and Superspyware detected it and isolated it before It could do any damage.

I will try the checkdisc and try to download the files again.

Thanks for your VERY PROMPT reply....

That makes sense.

I'll check my anti-virus logs.
I can also upload the files again and run the anti-virus scans one at a time and check every time to see if the uploads are still there.

Thanks.....

P.S. I just figured out that this is happening on shutdown & restart. Is this one of my security or privacy settings? If so, how do I change the settings and recover these files?
