Authentication failure while connecting to server imap.gmail.com.
I am getting the Mozilla Thunderbird Email wants to access your Google Account all the time while using TBM, I have removed the gmail account and the pop up does not show, so I know it is for the email account just removed. I re-add the email address and enter the email address and password and let it find the config itself. Click Done, and get the Mozilla Thunderbird Email wants to access your Google Account again, then click Allow and get the Authentication failure while connecting to server imap.gmail.com. message in the bottom left of my desktop. How can i get gmail to work again please.

There's apparently something interfering with the connection, such as antivirus, VPN. Run Windows in safe mode and see if the accounts can be added (or remove AV if it's not Windows Security, and VPN if used).

did you ever try without the password?
Ok, my error, I assumed it was asking for the password for the same yahoo address, wrong, I have two and was giving the wrong password.
I added the gmail email address to TBM while in safe mode and worked ok, once I started pc normally, all emails worked fine.
I'll keep this in mind should I have any issues adding email accounts to TBM in the future.
All working as before. THANK YOU to all.
I have got same issue.
Looks like my firewall was blocking something, Snort on pfSense
Everything looked OK, but TBE couldn't authenticate.
Try on different internet connection, like thru tethering on mobile device.

@thundebired Try Safe Mode and add the email accounts, then restart normally, it somehow bypasses the checks that seem to block it being added.
little update on that. Turns out for me problem was not with Snort but the fact that domain "www.googleapis.com" have been added to some Abuse list that my pfBlocker is using.
Every five minutes whether I have Thunderbird open or not, two popups appear with no "X" included where yiou can exit from them. One reds Google
Enter credentials. (I tried to add a screenshot here but it didn't work)
The other says:
Google Thunderbird want to access your Google account (Allow or Deny) (I tried to add a screenshot here but it didn't work)
The only way to remove either one of these is to highlight Thunderbird on the taskbar and when the screen with these messages comes up you can click on the "X" in the upper right hand corner to get out of it. But for only about five minutes, then they're back. I'll be working on something else on my computer and these will pop up and obliterate the page I'm working on and you can't exit out of it without going back to Thunderbird on the taskbar
I wish someone out there knew how to get rid of these They are most annoying!! I can't get rid of them and several of the solutions on here was to change the authentication in the Account Settings from SSL to 2authO. I tried that and T-bird wouldn't work anymore because I got a message that T-bird doesn't support that format. So I had to change back to SSL to get T-bird to work again.
Also, would someone tell me how to include screenshots in messages on this forum? I think it would be helpful for some computer guru to see what I'm talking about. The images are in my Thunderbird email so you can't browse and find them in File Explorer.

I will try to assist. On the Oauth2 issue, that is for authentication. You still need SSL/TLS for connection security. Not knowing your specifics, the intent of the popup is to select the 'allow' button, but it appears from your post that you do not want to do that. screenshots should be JPG (although PNG may work as well).
