In previous versions of Firefox for Android (version 68 and earlier) I had selected the option to clear my history when I closed Firefox. But since the introduction of the completely new version (Firefox Quantum?) this has a nasty side-effect: Not only my history is deleted, but I also loose all my bookmark icons (favicons). What I see after restarting Firefox are just colored squares with the first letter of the bookmark URL. The same happens with the icons of the Top sites on the Home page and the bookmarks in Collections.

The bookmark-icons are deleted when I select: "Menu > Settings > Delete browsing data on quit > Browsing history and site data" or "Menu > Settings > Delete browsing data > Browsing history and site data"

They are NOT deleted when I select: "Menu > History" and then tap on the recycle-bin icon

So it seems that the icons are seen as 'site data". Is this intended behaviour or a nasty bug?

Hi

It appears hha thus is working as designed as the presence of the icon indicates that the page has been visited. You can read more about this at:

Dear Seburo,

Thank you for the quick reply and the link. So it seems to be designed, just as I feared. Personally I don't understand why it should be a privacy issue that you can see that a bookmarked page has been visited: does anybody bookmark a page that they don't visit? But this support forum is probably not the correct place to discuss such issues...

Thanks again for your help,

Boudewijn.
