Tabs forget their URL

more options

Hi,

I'm the sort of user who usually has multiple tabs open all the time. In recent versions of Firefox for Windows (I don't remember at which version this problem started), some of my tabs will "forget" the URL they had loaded when I close the browser, then re-launch it later.

That is, the tab will contain a perfectly valid webpage initially, but after closing Firefox then re-launching, the same tab will come up with a BLANK address bar and a BLANK page. I then have to re-enter the address (or select from history drop-down or bookmarks) to reload the page.

I have no idea why this would be happening, but it can be quite annoying, as I use those websites all the time.

Hi Aimhere, I don't think there is a good explanation for this kind of glitch, which users have reported here from time to time. It could be some kind of file corruption, but if so, that doesn't help in identifying and removing the cause of it. Wish I knew the answer.

If you are concerned about losing tabs due to the difficulty of reconstructing their history, you could think about using a session manager add-on as a backup. These are the ones I've read about in recent years that you might investigate/try out:

Use database storage:

  • https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/session-boss/

Use bookmark storage:

  • https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/my-sessions/

Bookmark storage is more robust in that Firefox backs it up regularly. However, having the extra data show up when you are searching your bookmarks may be annoying.
