Some emails only show a "." and will not open. I can't find a way to fix this.
Some emails only show a "." and nothing else. Some will not show files that are attached. I have no idea how to fix this. Can anyone help?

Hi Could you possibly explain what view you are in and where the . is? Best is to upload a picture - a screenshot showing where in TB you are and some examples of the . problem?
Look at this period [ . ], That is the only thing that I am seeing in the body of the text.
Ok thanks, that helps a lot. Your original post says the email "will not open" so I thought the period was in the email list view. Your picture shows in fact you do have the email open, and the period is in the body text.
I have not seen anything quite like that. The email body might be an image that is not displaying. Please check View - Message body as - Original HTML. Try changing that setting if it is not using HTML.
If you Forward or Reply to the email, does the content show up? (Different behaviour when replying could narrow this down to incoming email view settings.)
It might be that the indexes are out of sync and need to be rebuilt. Report back the results when you Reply, and the change of view message body setting before we try anything else.
All of the information is there if I open the email up on my phone or tablet. No problem there other than I cannot print. If I forward the email from my computer to my gmail account, all of the information shows up. It is just on my computer with the TB account that nothing is showing but the period.
I have had this problem before. One of the places that I deal with would send out product updates. Everything was working fine, then, one day they weren't. The dreaded "." started showing up. This went on for over a year, then, all of a sudden the emails were working fine again on my computer.
I cannot find a "junk box" anywhere when I open TB. I was able to access some screen that showed coding, and it had a "No" next to "Junk Flag", if that is any help.
It would be nice to have someone to talk to about this rather than have myself the dinosaur try to explain things I know nothing about to someone that does.
Hi I'm sorry - we are a group of volunteers and we can't call and talk to you. Bear in mind we could be half way around the world away from where you are. You might have someone local who provides computer assistance and can be more hands on.
I do not know why you are looking for a junk box. I did not mention that, and it does not seem related to the question you asked.
Regarding forward or reply - the point is whether the content shows up in Thunderbird when you forward or reply - not whether it shows up after you send. If it shows up when you are in an edit / send screen or it does not, then that narrows down where the trouble may be.
Did you check the settings I mentioned? View - Message body as. Awaiting response whether changing those made any difference.
Yes, I tried "view". No help. The only thing that changed was the page justification all the way to the left.
To be clear -
- What is the current setting for View Message Body As?
- What shows in the message body after you click Reply?
- Please also say what version of Thunderbird you are using https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/find-what-version-thunderbird-you-are-using
Thanks
If View/Message Body As is Original HTML and you can't still see the message, click the 3-bar icon in the upper right, Options/Options/Privacy/Mail Content, Exceptions... and check that remote content is not blocked for the sender.
The content is there somewhere, as it appears after you forward it. Do you have any add-ons that might be altering how emails display?

That didn't work either.
None that I know of.
