how-to add mailto app page not detailed enough for AOL option

more options

the how-to described adding a mailto (client?) only up to a certain point. could someone specifically illustrate how to add AOL as an option even though it's merely a website and not technically an 'app'? (or, it's an external app...whatever). this would assist many who prefer AOL but who visit websites that don't encode MAILTO properly...or something. thanks.

Not every email service works the Firefox mailto feature, unfortunately. There are only a couple of webmail services that work with the mailto feature.

The only way you could add AOL to the mailto drop-down list is by using a browser extension that adds that support, but I don't know of any you could use.

well, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. perhaps if there was more precise doc on FF implementation of MAILTO that'd help. ackshally, it doesn't make sense to me. AFAIK gmail and yahoo email options just invoke a particular URL. since AOL handily supplys one it should be a no-brainer to add that to the mailto dropdown, eh? so it's...very confuselating. no way to brute-force add such to the mailto dropdown? should be. s'not in the settable parms? everything else sure is. sigh.

Like I said, I couldn't find an extension that adds the option for AOL to be the mailto option... so I made you one.

You will be able to download it from the Firefox add-ons website and then you should have the AOL option in the mailto settings page.

Hope this helps.

NOTE: Since it's a new browser extension, it needs to go through a review process before you will be able to download it. This usually only takes a day or two, but it may take longer due to the holidays. Until it's reviewed, the link above may not work for you.
