HTML5 "select" control doesn't render options visibly; can't see which "option" is selected... Similar concern existed for HTML5 datalist control, but since I upgraded browser earlier today this appears resolved.

I don't think you can use self-closing tags for this. Firefox expects:

<option value="0">Text</option>
