Hi there, I have a problem at work with the dictionaries. At home I can use the installed dictionary without any problem. At work we also have Firefox 59.0.2 (64bit), and I can see the dictionary installed. But when I choose the language I only see red lines under my text (and I know for sure some words are correct). If I pick the standard language of Firefox (English - United states), it works. But if I install a different dictionary like English - British it won't work. I also tried Dutch and some other languages. But only the standard one works.

I have tried an older computer that has an older version of Firefox, and it works perfect. Until I update Firefox to the latest version. then it won't work anymore. So I thought it had to do with the Firefox version. But at home it works perfect with the same new Firefox update.

Anyone an idea? Or is it maybe the 64 bit that does not work? Can someone test this for me?

I found the problem (not the solution). At work we save the Firefox profile to a network drive (X-drive). If I install the dictionary addon it saves this extension on the X-drive profile folder. Firefox sees the extension, but the extension itself looks for the content of the dictionary under c:\program files\.....extensions\. So if I copy the dictionary files from the X-drive profile to the C-drive profile, it works! But then we have to copy paste those files on every computer for every user and dictionary they use.

Is there a way to say to Firefox that it has to look for the extension AND content on the X-drive? This problem only exist in version 59.0.2 of Firefox. In the older updates we did not have this problem.

This might be a sandbox issue.

You can check for sandbox security related issues.

You can set this pref to 2 or 1 on the about:config page to lower the sandbox security setting.

  • security.sandbox.content.level = 2
  • close and restart Firefox to make the change effective.

If '1' still doesn't have effect then try '0' to disable the sandbox.

If this didn't work then undo/reverse the change and reset the pref via the right-click context menu to the default value.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Security/Sandbox does not seem to work (We can’t connect to the server at wiki.mozilla.org).

I tried to change security.sandbox.content.level = to 2, 1 and even 0 But nothing helped. I also tried adding the dictionary again (remove, and then add it back). But even that did not help. It still seems to look for the content on C:\Program Files\Mozilla\Firefox\extensions\.... even when the addon is correctly installed on the network drive.

I will also test it on a different computer to be sure.

It does not work. As soon as Firefox has it's profile folder somewhere else (like a network drive X), the dictionaries won't work unless you copy the files to the C drive folder where Firefox is locally installed. This problem only occurs in the latest Firefox version (59.0.2).

Looks like a known issue.

I hope cor-el comes up with a solution soon. It is part of the infrastructure! This Firefox update should never have been issued with this bug(?)
