Having problems with transferring Accounts and data from one PC to another. Used an old application called Mozbackup. Didn't work, so in desperation I have uninstalled Thunderbird, removed the profile and then reloaded a fresh copy of Tbird. I expected this would come with a new basic profile attached, but the program will not start, and is giving message that it cannot find the profile ! I am using Windows10.

I expected this would come with a new basic profile attached, but the program will not start, and is giving message that it cannot find the profile ! I am using Windows10. I have now located the previous copy of the profile, and the problem has changed ! There should be seven Email groups, each with folders e.g.input/sent/deleted etc. All the left side of the screen now shows is a single heading "Local Folders" with no list below it. Viewing 'settings' for this shows the account settings for all three Sky Email accounts, but none of the four BT ones. How can I get this back to normal ??

Didn't work, so in desperation I have uninstalled Thunderbird,

You're wasting your time. Profile files are stored separately from the Thunderbird program files. The program files are static and do not change (except when you upgrade the Thunderbird application version). Because we store profile and program files separately, you can uninstall Thunderbird without losing your messages and settings, and if something goes wrong with a Thunderbird update your information will still be available. It also means that you don't have to reinstall Thunderbird in order to delete your information or troubleshoot a problem.

I expected this would come with a new basic profile attached, but the program will not start, and is giving message that it cannot find the profile !

I suppose you didn't bother to clean up the then orphan reference to the deleted profile in profiles.ini.

I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve by re-installing Thunderbird, and deleting the existing profile. Can you elaborate?
