A message search on a phrase is confused by having a number as part of the phrase. "Page 2" returns messages with just "page"

But "aircraft design" works properly

BTW, can it search on just the text in To:, From:, Subject:, or Message, like in Outlook Express?

lf my mom sent me a message a year back about a "cat" and I search by that word in Tbird, it returns almost every message on my computer! In OE, I could search Subject Line alone and find it quickly.

The snag is that two of the search tools, (ctrl+shif+f and the QuickFilter) work only on the current folder whereas the indiscriminate global search is the only one that by default spans your entire mail store.

A work around when you want a precise search over all or specifically selected accounts is to use a Saved Search. I'll leave it to you to look it up for now. Post again if you can't make it work.

Basically, it lets you apply the ctrl+shift+f dialogue to multiple folders or accounts.

Minutes after posting this, I found the answer to my second question. Turns out that Tbird is WAY better than OE for searching, you just have to use the dedicated Search dialog, not the Quick Search Toolbar:

Menubar > Edit > Find > Search Messages

This also works correctly with an input like "page 2" and you don't even need to put quotes around the phrase.

But the "page 2" problem is still there in the Quick Search toolbar, as I described originally.

Thanks. I'll just use the good search dialog. Works great.
