It is the same password you use to access your webmail account via a browser.
You set up the password you want to use via the webmail account, not Thunderbird. Then you use that password in Thunderbird.
If you have forgotten your password, so cannot logon to webmail, then there should be a 'Forgotten Password' link. You would need to follow the online instructions to gain access to your webmail account. Then update/reset a new password. That password you then use to access webmail account and also use it in Thunderbird, so that Thunderbird can access the server.
hello, I have re set my password, which has let me log back into my emails, Thank you but I can only view the messages from 2013 only now, do you know how to alter the settings so I find all the current ones?
Is this pop or imap mail account ?
See if the indexing needs to be repaired. Right click on the folder and select 'Properties' click on 'Repair Folder' click on 'OK'
select another folder and then reselect the folder you repaied.
Hello, I have tried this, I have also tried numerous other possibilities that I could find on google, but no good, thanks for replying
Is this pop or imap mail account ?
Hello I believe it is pop
The web tells me there will be no Windows 11 - so what is it that you have installed?
e.g.
http://www.geek.com/microsoft/windows-10-is-the-last-version-there-is-no-windows-11-1622504/ http://www.techradar.com/news/software/operating-systems/microsoft-confirms-there-will-be-no-windows-11-1293309 http://www.networkworld.com/article/2920775/microsoft-subnet/there-will-not-be-a-windows-11.html
well it updated the windows 10 then ?
Check for operating system information in Windows 10 How to check what version of Windows: Go to Start Start menu icon, enter About your PC, then select About your PC.
Look under PC for Edition to find out which version and edition of Windows your PC is running.
Look under PC for System type to see if you're running a 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows.
Hello it is the 64 bit version
re :I can only view the messages from 2013 only
Can you tell us a bit more about your folders and where the emails should be.
- Do you keep all received emails in the 'Inbox'?
- Do you have Inbox subfolders you created for certain emails?
- Do you have other folders you created to store specific emails?
- Which folder currently displays the year 2013 emails?
- Should the missing emails be in that same folder?
- Are you only talking about the 'Inbox' ?
Until this is resolved one way or the other, Do not compact any folders.
Hello, this morning when I have gone into my emails they have all disappeared again, !!!
My inbox, sent, are both empty
I do not use sub folders,
I have no filters in place, I just don't know what has gone wrong
Let's see what is in your profile 'Mail' folder. Make hidden files and folders visible:
In Thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting Information click on 'Show folder' button a new window opens showing the contents of your Profile folder name, usually called 'xxxxxxx.default' where the x's are letters and numbers.
click on 'Mail' folder. You will see a list of pop mail accounts including 'Local Folders'. Please tell me exactly what is in that 'Mail' folder. Be careful not to make any typo mistakes. OR post an image showing contents.
(should you ever want to create a backup, then you should copy that 'xxxxxxx.default' folder - with Thunderbird closed first - to an external storage device)
Hello, under mail accounts, there seem to be three Please see below,
account1 (pop3) pop.lcn.com:110 STARTTLS Normal password post.lcn.com:25 STARTTLS Normal password true
account2 (none) Local Folders None Normal password
account6 (pop3) pop.icn.con:110 STARTTLS Normal password mail.conistonhouse.co.uk:587 STARTTLS Encrypted password true
Hope this is what you are on about?
Account 6 worries me. It looks as if it should have the same settings as account 1, but it has two differences that might be just spelling or typing errors:
con for com icn for lcn
Did you type these in by hand?
Are both accounts with the same provider? If so, I'd expect the SMTP settings to be similar, but you have different ports (25 and 587) , and account 6 has a rather unusual "encrypted password" setting.
None of this is necessarily wrong, and the SMTP part won't affect incoming. The icn looks incorrect though it doesn't explain the lost messages.
Hello, I just copied them across,
they are with the same provider, I have only one email account so I don't understand why there are three things
You have a local folders account too, account 2. That's normal and absolutely not a problem. But where did icn.con come from? I'd expect that to be giving connection error messages.
Hello, I have no idea ?
I know how to use emails but other than that I am lost
