I am using Yosemite 10.10.3 and Thunderbird 38.5.1 and can't export addresses to anywhere
I am trying to export my address book from Thunderbird to the Apple Contacts app or even at a tab separated file on the desktop but none of the addresses will export. The only thing I get is a screen that doesn't give the option of choosing an app and the screen shot of it won't load -- the wheel just keeps turning. Any help appreciated.

Open the address book window. Select the book you want to export by clicking that folder in the directory pane on the left side. Select Tools-Export from the menu bar. Select the destination to save the file and give it a name. Select the file type that the application you are going to import to can use. Click SAVE

are you selecting an address book other than "All address books" as a search book it does not export.
I can't find anything that says All Address Books. The Export Address Book screen that comes up when I go to Address Book Tools when I select Address Book simply ask where to save, i.e. Desktop, Documents, etc. but there is nothing that allows me to select Addresses. If I go to Applications I can't click on Contacts to open that.
You do not select addresses. You are exporting the address book. The whole book.
Sorry for being so dense but how address book does one export the whole address book? I want the information from the Thunderbird address book put in my Apple Contacts book.

Thanks You! I didn't think of that. I saved it as a tab delimited file to desktop and then imported it to Apple Contacts. Worked like a charm! (Obviously I am quite new to Thunderbird.)
Great! Glad to got it working.
This is a nice add on that gives you a few more options in the address book. You might want to add it to Thunderbird.
