After using "Search" how do I find out which folder the email is in?
Thunderbird. I am trying to locate a sub-folder that contains several emails. If I use some key words in the "Search" facility in Thunderbird, I can view an email that has those keywords in it, but I have not "located" the email in the sense that I have not determined which Thunderbird sub-folder it is in. I do not want to know where the email is to be found in my operating system folders, just in my tree of subfolders within Thunderbird.
thank you, Richard Schurmann

If you use 'Edit' > 'Find ' > 'Seach Messages' method. It does only show the 'Location' column header as the name of the folder, but...... select an email in the search list click on the option 'Open in Folder'. So, it takes you straight to the folder - no need to search for it. The 'Search Messagees' window may stay open, so it is easy to get back to it.

If you're using Global Search, click 'Open email as list' from the search results page and then enable the Location column by right-clicking any column title button.
If you're using Search Messages from the folder right-click menu, the Location column can also be displayed in the search results.
Unfortunately, the Location gives only the folder name, not the full path (although you can also display the Account column).
Thank you for your help but the "unfortunately, the Location gives only the folder name, not the full path" means that your answer did not meet the need. I solved the problem by searching all folders that had subfolders, and "opening up" the whole tree. Eventually, I found the sub folder in a place where I would not have looked, but was logical once I found it. In future, I will name sub folders with a name that makes them locatable. R.

Thank you Toad Hall. That was the answer that worked for me. R.
