I have three email accounts that I have been using without problems for several years. Recently one of the accounts started trying to send emails using the log-in of one of the other accounts. The settings all look OK; receiving emails addressed to the account is not a problem. All three accounts use the same smtp-server.

Any ideas how to correct this?

re : All three accounts use the same smtp-server.

An smtp server will have a UserName, which = an emaill address and it will also use the appropriate password for that UserName.

so you are using an smtp with a UserName that does match the email address you are wanting to use for sending.

Example senario - If all the mail accounts are eg: gmail then they will all use the same server settings, port etc. But the Username and password will be different for each email address.

Create a new Outgoing server (SMTP) . See first image below as aid DEscription is only used to help you identify the account. So: Description: Personal or Business or whatever describes it for you Server name, port, connection security and authentication: same as on other server UserName = email address click on OK to add

Then tell your mail account to use that eg:'Personal' outgoing server configured to be used for that email address. See second image as aid

could you post info just to help clarify:

In Thunderbird

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • Do not select 'include account names'
  • click on 'Copy text to clipboard'
  • paste info into this question
  • Edit/remove all the section on fonts and printers as it is not required, but do not edit anything else.
