search bar gone when i deleted google from drop down, unable to retrieve search bar/and unable to replace google on aurora home page- with bing
and further, the gentlemen's download advises on a prior thread, were UNrelated to my problem, and each of 6x I downloaded that addon, it's logo at left end of address bar, VANished, within moments after it appeared. followed by a padlock in place of where that addons logo had appeared.
to be VERY clear, the search box with it's drop downs of 4 other search engines, was intact. when i went to DELETE GOOGLE from the search engines on the drop down list on that search bar/which WAS at the rt. ISH end of the add. bar, THAT action DELETED the entire search BAR from existence. it would appear, GOOGLE somehow CONTROLS Mozilla Corporation and by the act of deleting the Google search from the search bar, which would have left my other 4 choices for search, Google Corp. then ELiminated entirely, my search bar.
ALSO, and not related to above, I have been UNable to replace Google with Bing on the Mozilla/Aurora HOME start page.....again Google runs Mozilla. This is why I don't and won't use Chrome and I don't and won't use Explorer.
I want Bing not Google on the start page. I want back my search BAR. And I want to be able to add or delete search engines from my search bar without the search bar getting angry and vanishing.
Further, I want whoever volunteers to answer threads, to NON tech their answers for avg. everyday humans attempting to have a life.

Hello,
If you have already followed the steps in How to set the home page and that doesn't work, then can you try the following:
- Click the menu button and choose Add-ons.
- In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
- Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
- Click the Remove button.
- Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.
After Firefox restarts, install the Search Reset Tool. This will remove the rest of the traces of this program from your Firefox.
For further information, please read Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page.
As for your search bar, it is probably hidden
- Click the menu button and choose Customize
- In the page that appears, your Search Bar should hopefully be among them. Click and drag your Search Bar back onto your toolbar
For removing Google from your search bar, did you click the drop down button, right click on Google, then press "Remove from Toolbar"? I agree its not very user friendly in that regard since that removes the Search Bar from the toolbar, and not Google from the search engine list.
For removing search engines from your list:
- Click the drop down button as you have done before but click "Manage Search Engines..."
- The attached screenshot should pop up, click on Google and "Remove" to remove the search engine from your list, followed by "OK"
Hope that helps.
EDIT: for some reason, the screenshot isn't loading, reuploading

On the built-in home page, if you want to use that, try clicking the Google logo to drop down a list of other choices (other installed search plugins) and choose Bing instead.
Note: I have not seen Aurora, so this is based on Firefox 30 or 31+, where I first noticed it.
You can check if you can find the Google search bar in the Customize palette.

The problem is you think you are removing the search engine from Search bar when the "Remove from Toolbar" does as it says as in remove that toolbar item from toolbar and puts it in Customize window. You need to go to Manage Search engines.
