How can I fix Firefox crashing whenever I have many tabs open?

I will try to keep this short. I used to be a long time Firefox user...like since it was first released. I have always had issues with it crashing when having many tabs open. I couldn't take it anymore and jumped ship. After a brief period using Chrome I decided to install version 31 and try it out again.

I still have the same exact issues. The issue has persisted across multiple computer builds with increasing power and memory.

Currently I am running an i7 4770k with 32GB of RAM and a GTX 770, SSDs, etc. I just installed Firefox yesterday after getting fed up with Chrome and some of its issues. Firefox has crashed about 6-10 times since then.

I am a heavy browser. I normally build up tons of open tabs, upwards of 100+ open tabs at once (maybe more, I've never counted). I understand that this can use a lot of memory, but I have a ton of memory. My system utilization does not go above 30% ever, yet Firefox consistently crashes. I'm actually a bit surprised, it seems worse now than it ever has in the past. It crashes, I restore, and it will crash again within 5 minutes. I have no add-ons installed. I had Ad Block Plus installed briefly but I uninstalled that once these crashes started.

This is Firefox, no add-ons no extras, nothing else to alter its performance. It crashes constantly. This may just be the final attempt before I go searching elsewhere.

hello, yes this looks like an out-of-memory crash (probably due to many open tabs). you could try a 64bit port of firefox which will be able to use all the available memory: https://www.waterfoxproject.org/

hello, could you provide your latest few submitted crash reports? please enter about:crashes into the location bar, copy the latest few report ids from there starting with bp- & paste them here into a forum reply. this will give us a better understanding what may be triggering those crashes.

I tried to do as you instructed but I don't see any of my recent crashes in there. There are some older ones I see, perhaps from a previous install? There is nothing for the crashes I've had the past day or two. I don't normally submit crash reports though anymore. I can try to recreate the problem and submit one soon if that helps?
