YouTube most likely requires the Flash plugin. See this article: How do I watch Flash videos with Firefox for Android?

Thanks, but how would you ever know which archived version to download? It look like there are dozens of them.

The one with the largest version number. Since Adobe is still providing security updates the number changes now and again. Currently Flash Player 11.1 for Android 4.0 (11.1.115.81) assuming you are on Android 4.0 or greater.
