Firefox 6 history retainment
I understand that since Firefox 4, the number of days Firefox will retain history for is directly related to system hardware. Firefox calculates how much history to retain without impacting system performance.
I have firefox 6, now I want it to retain everything I have ever searched and entered and everything I will ever will.
I don't care if it slows it down, I want everything.
Maybe you know about a user-set preference I can use to accomplish it and override firefox default settings of removing my history :(
Thank you!

hello, is there a specific reason why you're staying with firefox 6? - in order to receive the latest security updates and improvements i'd recommend updating to the current version (firefox 12 at the moment): getfirefox.com
you can manually set the maximum number of pages that should be stored, enter about:config into the location bar of the browser, confirm the info dialog, rightclick somewhere in the page & select new > integer and give the preference the name places.history.expiration.max_pages & set a very high number as its value. (fyi, the current amount of pages retained is set in places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages) https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Places_Expiration#Preferences

Thank you!
the preference "places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages" has the same value as the preference "places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages"
Is that okay?
On the page you provided, there is a line saying that "The maximum number of pages that may be retained in the database before starting to expire."
Can I completely disable the expiration?
And as for the version, I did not know because it does not notice me when there is a new update so I thought it updates automatically.

hello, i don't get the first question...
i don't think it's possible to turn off expiration completely through a switch in about:config - however you just can set a high number that you're confident you'll never reach, like 9999999
as for the updates, make sure that firefox is set to look for updates in firefox > options > advanced > updates. you can also just download the latest version and install it over your current version - all history, passwords, settings etc. will remain.
Sorry, the preference "places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages" has the same value as places.history.expiration.max_pages.
thank you for your advice, I changed the value to 9999999.
And thank you, although there is something wrong here, because automatically download and install updates is checked, and yet I am still in version 6.
Will the preference I set remain if I update Firefox?

The places.history.expiration.transient_current_max_pages is a read-only pref that shows the currently used value for current_max_pages.
