how to turn off automatic draft encryption

more options

Since having upgraded Ubuntu to 21.4 I have now Thunderbird 78.11.0 and it appears t automatically encrypt all drafts, without asking for permission, even though encryption is explicitly turned off.

I must have access to my drafts on a mobile device on which I dont have my opengpg key available, and dont want to change that.

y key should not be on a mobile, and the messages dont have secret things.

I looked through all the configs, and searched the web, but I dont appear to have autoencrypt drafts enabled on that account, and dont understand how to disable it.

What can I do?

Hello there hening8. We have read your message. We try to help you.

You do have changed the automatic encryptions on all your devices? Also manually?

Did you not changed Thunderbirds security?

Hello there again.

Ubuntu has a better and more options to do this than Thunderbird.exe It might’be Ubuntu s configuration.

In TB78 there's a pref for this, but no GUI yet. Open the Config Editor and filter for the pref autoEncryptDrafts. Adjust the pref(s) to your needs. In TB91 (the next release version) there will also be a GUI for it.

Thank you for that idea!

I mentioned that in my question, but probably wasnt clear enough:

I have found that option when searching the web for solutions. But I verified that it is set to "false", and still drafts get encrypted.

mail.identity.default.autoEncryptDrafts;false mail.identity.id1.autoEncryptDrafts;false

Hello there again.

So there is connection for it to test it somewhere but the graphic part ain’t there yet Yes it could be under construction to use in one of our Thunderbird Software. It might be -versionTB91.

Some settings has to be restored. Or being reprogrammed and being reinstalled. So the option might be off.(for now)

Thank you.

I am using Ubuntu 21.4, upgraded Monday from 20.10. I dont understand how the documentation of the 18.4 server that doesnt contain anything about thunderbird can help there.

I also checked the previous links you sent, but dont see how they are related to the encrypted drafts.

Sorry maybe I oversee something obvious...

I am totally fine editing the settings in the config editor - the problem is these values seem to have no effect. Or they are not the right ones, despite their names suggest they are exactly what I need...

It's possible that the code to use the pref only landed in beta, and not in the release version, but I'm not sure. You may want to subscribe to the TB e2ee mailing list, and ask there. https://thunderbird.topicbox.com/groups/e2ee

The next stable Thunderbird version 91 is expected for some time in August, but release dates may slip. You may also try the current beta if you don't want to wait. Make sure to create a separate profile for it in case you want to do this. https://www.thunderbird.net/channel/

i believe this bugzilla ticket explains it: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1681168

If I understand it correctly, this setting is an old one from enigmail. So the reason why I see it in the config editor is because I have used enigmail before, and it's config is still in the config database.

But the current TB78 code seems not yet to be using the option.

It seems like it will be in TB91 as you both said!

Thank you, Henning! ;)

Thank you... I still dont understand how the server guide will help me with thunderbird issues ;)

But the hint for TB91 seems to be just right!

See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1681168 for the background...

Thank you very much for your fast responses and help!
