My older version of Thunderbird would no longer start when my computer was rebooted, so I downloaded the latest version. When I started it, all my 20 years of collected address was gone. Why would the new version not see my older version and migrate them?

Also, when I open a new email, it opens in a new tab. I want it to open in a new page, but can find no option for this.

Thanks, Garry

What version was the old one?

Not sure of the version but it was really old. The new version overwrote everything. Only 2 files with older dates. bd_config.cfg and update-settings.ini.

Why would Mozilla release a version that wiped out all your old bookmarks, address and settings?

Thanks

That shouldn't be the case, because starting with version 68, Thunderbird uses a dedicated profile, so your old version profile should not have been loaded or touched by the new version unless you manually tell it to load your old profile. Don't you have any form of backup for 20 years worth of contacts!?

I don't think there is reason to believe the old profile is gone. You can access the profile manager and hopefully find it. Help > Troubleshooting > about:profiles Look for the default profile
