3 days ago I launched firefox and my default search engine came up as yahoo. In preferences and settings I don't have the option to remove yahoo, it is the only choice in the pull down menu for search engines. I haven't downloaded or installed anything new in weeks, I don't have add-ons or extensions that I don't recognize. I have yahoo in my menu tool bar but that is not new. Why is yahoo my default SE, more importantly how do I get rid of it?

Hi IVR4,

Try changing your search options by typing about:preferences#search in your search bar. This will show your search options and you can decide which engine you would like and also removing those that you do not.

Also, check your Firefox icon on your desktop by right clicking -> properties -> Target.

If anything appears after firefox.exe let us know

Your troubleshooting data still shows all default search engine as active.

Can you click the "Restore Default Search Engines" button in "Options/Preferences -> Search" ?

You can try to rename/remove search.json.mozlz4 in the Firefox profile folder to rebuild the search engine registry.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.
