Why am I having trouble making any download helper work?

I have a new MacBook Air. I have tried downloading several Download Helpers to download videos from YouTube, but none seem to work. When I downloaded the product "Dowload Helper" I did see an icon on the tool bar. When I would open Firefox I would see it in color momentarily, then it would "ghost". It would never activate or spin on any videos.

That appears to be a problem with the add-on, not Firefox. If you want to download YouTube videos, then try YouTube Center.

I thank you very kindly for that information! I found this add on and downloaded it. However, I don't see any tool anywhere on the screen when I go to YouTube that I would use to download the video. I was expecting to see an icon somewhere that would allow me to use the tool.

There is a button for the YouTube Center add-on to download videos, but I've found something else which works fine, called Flash Video Downloader. Download it here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/flash-video-downloader/ After it has been installed, there will be a Download button under YouTube videos that you can download the video with.

I am not ,by far a expert, but when firefox does an update are the add-on "vendors" notified so they can see if theur product needs to have changes made?

stuart7491,

Firefox is released on a posted 6 week schedule, so their is no reason for any add-on developer to be caught by surprise when their add-on stops working or needs to be updated. https://wiki.mozilla.org/RapidRelease/Calendar#Future_branch_dates Central (Nightly), Aurora (aka Developer Edition), Beta, and Release

All "channel" versions are available for anyone that wants to "test" them, to see what is "coming down the road", or to contribute to the development of Firefox.

The "life cycle" of each new version of Firefox is 24 weeks. 6 weeks in the Nightly channel in Alpha 1 development. 6 weeks in the Developer Edition / Aurora channel - Alpha 2. 6 weeks in the Beta channel - "fit and finish" stage. (And very rarely a new, smaller feature is added in Beta when it was developed off the normal "channel route" in secret. Has happened just once, iirc, somewhat recently.)

Then 6 weeks as the latest Release version, before the next Release version comes out.

I have the same trouble downloading from any site. This began 7-27-15, the same date that the latest version of Firefox was installed on my laptop. I have tried several different download programs and none of them work. Please fix or give me some idea of a way to fix this problem.

Thanks

I thought the VDH was working properly but it is not mine is downloading every click i do, so every article being read shows up in there. I have not been able to find a repair , so I am just going to disable and try again in a few weeks. I know how you feel
