In Liux Mint 16, I go to FF export bookmarks. Window opens with bookmarks.html but no specific file is shown to save? I have chosen a floppy disk to save the bookmarks file.

I have previously successfully used this procedure to export FF bookmark html files from WXP.

I'm sorry but I have never used it myself.

First choose the directory to save the file in, then enter a name for the file. You might want to add a date to the end of the file name. Then press Save.

I chose the floppy disk to get the bookmarks.html file. THen I clicked SAVE....but nothing was saved on the floppy disk.

I was expecting the named bookmarks.html file to then be posted in the large window below which is the SAVE button. I had given a name to the bookmarks file but it disappeared after clicking SAVE.

screen pix attached.

Do yo have any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Try to save the file to a folder on your hard drive. Any difference?

Hi, I was able to save bookmarks.html to a folder on the hard drive.....but whats not clear is that setting up to save the file in the FF Export window as soon as you click SAVE the whole window dissapears and there is no knowing if the Save has worked ? It seems to would be good to have an acknowlegement that the file has been SAVED and where.

Thanks for your help.

Some computers / programs are temperamental. They can do something, but only the way they want. Using a file viewer, open the bookmarks.html file. The file should be normal text with only a few control characters, so you should be able to go thru it. Now that you have the file, you can copy it to wherever you want.

Thanks,

When I open and look at the bookmarks text file it shows all the often many sub listings within each main item. If I select this detailed view to import willI I still get the normal view which shows the higher level bookmarks display, where clicking on any item will display sub level links to the right.
