Why is Youtube not recognizing my Adobe Flash Player Add-On?
I just did the auto update so that Firefox 17.0 was installed. Anyway, for whatever reason, Youtube only seems to notice that my Adobe Flash Player add-on exists when it wants to. At the moment, it's not recognizing it, so I can't play videos. I've had to close out my current sessions of Firefox to get it to recognize the Flash Player, and then even then it's a crap shoot. What is going on? How can I fix this? Flash is one of the most basic programs needed in an internet browser, these days.

Hi,
You can try deleting pluginreg.dat in the Firefox Profile Folder after exiting Firefox. To open the profile folder via Firefox: Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information > Show Folder.
Firefox Profile Folder & Files
If the problem persists, you can also reset Firefox and start afresh.
The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.
To Reset Firefox do the following:
- Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
- Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
- Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
- Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.
Further information can be found in the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article.

Do you see the Flash plugin in Tools > Add-ons > Plugins ?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
- Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.
Yes, this worked. And, I didn't even have to close Firefox to get it to work.
Okay, it worked, but when I got back here, tonight, I found that the file is back and I have to do this again. Will I have to do this with EVERY new session of Firefox? Really?
Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
Did you make sure that it doesn't interfere with the Firefox settings and possibly corrupts files in the Firefox Profile Folder?
I have an old McAfee firewall and nothing else, but I don't ever have the firewall turned on.
