Heavy slowness
Hello,
Since a while now, Firefox is really slox on my computer. Here is what I use :
- Ubuntu 20.04.02 (an LTS version)
- Intel i5-8250u & 16Go of RAM
- Firefox 84.0.2 (64 bits)
I experience, as mentioned, heavy slowness while loading and switching between pages, but also when I want to select DOM elements like links or buttons. Firefox actually freezes for sometimes, I guess depending on how long it has been opened, but I am really not sure. When switching from one page to another I even get a loading circle, even in private mode. And it does matter if I am on a "heavy/complex" page like Facebook or Youtube, or "simpler/lighter" pages like Wikipedia or some random blog.
What I tried to solve the issue :
- used Firefox in safe mode
- cleaned Firefox cache
- used Firefox integrated repair mode
Yet, even though I got to admit Firefox did not have freezes after a repair operation or cache was cleaned for a few while, slowness always come back. I cannot afford to do that everyday.
Is there a durable solution to this issue ? Thanks, Lou.

I almost forgot to share a list of modules I use.
And in case it matters, my laptop is a Dell Inspiron 7570 15" from 2018 (not sure about the date).

Can you try downloading a separate version to a folder. Run it from there to see if it performs better.
https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release
Operating System: openSUSE Tumbleweed 20210130 KDE Plasma Version: 5.20.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.78.0 Qt Version: 5.15.2 Kernel Version: 5.10.9-1-default OS Type: 64-bit Processors: 8 × Intel® Core™ i7-4810MQ CPU @ 2.80GHz Memory: 31.0 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa DRI Intel® HD Graphics 4600
So, after a day or so of using Firefox from another folder as you advised, I did not experienced any kind of slowness as I did before. Should I try to completely remove FF from my computer and then reinstall it ? (sudo apt remove/autoremove/install )
It wouldn't hurt to try. Before reinstalling, try the installed version from another user account and don't log into the Firefox account. This way we can see if it's something in your profile.
Oh actually, after another day of use I notice a slight slowness on the "other Firefox" (v 85.0), mainly on Facebook.
Okay another update : I kept using the "other Firefox" logged out from my ff account, and with only uBlock Origin as extension. I did not experience any slowness so far. Seems like either the fact to be logged in or one of my extension is turning FF in a laggy browser.
My money is on extension. ;-)) I switched from my distro browser to a separate Firefox 2 months ago and I'm not going back.
I think so too, I am getting rid of some extensions and testing if Forefox is still slow. So you advise to use a separate Firefox ?
Yes sir...
Update : using a separate Firefox didn't solve the issue ... I guess I'll just stop using Firefox and switch back to Chromium. Too bad.
