Bose AE2 Soundlink Stereo bluetooth headphones have worked perfectly in firefox for years, and still do for my entire computer, including other browsers on it. Suddenly stopped working recently in firefox only. I have already reinstalled firefox and gone through every procedure recommended in the help faq to no avail. I have updated all Bose software and the headphones. Nothing has worked, and I only use my bluetooth headset on this computer, a HP Envy laptop (Win 10 PRO). The speakers on this computer work fine with firefox, and work in firefox. Please help! Desperate here...

I managed to solve this issue by disabling the Realtek driver in Device manager within the sound devices. I then uninstalled the realtek driver from the same location and restarted. Upon reboot, the realtek driver reinstalled itself, but the headphones continued to work properly in firefox. Issue now fully resolved!

Open Firefox --> play content that should play sound (such as this Firefox video or a Flash video with sound)-->Click the volume icon in the Windows taskbar--:>Open Volume Mixer.

I have three options in my devices that can be selected to play sounds on my computer. The only one that actually works to play Firefox sound is the Speaker/Headphones (Realtek(R) Audio) option, and it only plays through the speakers, not the headphones. The other 2 options that I have available to me on this computer are the headseat and the headphone options that are installed by Bose Software. These options work perfectly for EVERY other program on this computer and also system sounds with Win 10 Pro. When I have the headphones connected and positively working within ALL other programs and Win sounds, the volume mixer sees that I have firefox running and shows the firefox logo slider as in above picture. It also shows the headphones as active in the device slider, and Applications/System sounds slider. All are unmuted. There is no GRAY activity within any of the sliders, as there should be, when firefox application is running a tab with the sound icon displayed on the index tab of the page. This page index tab icon is also unmuted. When I change the device to the realtek driver, I get another firefox slider in the volume mixer which immediately shows grey activity within it, and when unmuted, works to sound from the computer speakers, but not to the headset. Interestingly, when I do this driver switch in the volume mixer, the system sounds slider disappears, and 2 separate sliders with firefox icons and the realtek driver device slider are visible, and both of the firefox icon sliders come up muted, with only the new firefox icon slider showing gray activity within it. When I unmute this new slider, firefox audio plays perfectly through the computer speakers. In essence, Firefox is working perfectly through the speakers, but refuses to work through the headphone device. Hope this clarifies the problem, please request any further info you might need to help, and THANK YOU for your reply!

Hi,

I have a Bose Q35 Headset connected through Bluetooth to my PC, Windows 10 1909 EN 64.

The sound is switching automatically from the speakers to the headset when connecting the headset so I do have sound with all applications like

  • Internet Explorer
  • MPC-HC x64
  • VLC Media Player
  • Microsoft Media Player
  • IrfanView 64 4.50
  • Windows 10 System
  • iTunes

but the sound is not switching to the headset with

  • Firefox 71.0 (64) EN

With Firefox the audio is continuing to play through the speakers, even so the Windows settings panel is showing that it has switched to the headset.

I’ve done the following steps without any success:

  • Ensured that the headset is set to default sound device in Windows 10
  • Reinstalled BT driver of Windows 10
  • Applied firmware update of Bose Q35
  • Deleted and reconnected Q35 through Bluetooth
  • Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox

Also the solution from the post above, uninstalling the audio drivers and restarting Windows to reinstall them, did not help.

I’m still having the problem. On my notebook, with the same software setup, the headset is working fine with Firefox.

Does anybody have any idea what could be causing the problem or how it could be solved?
