Upgraded firefox 38.8 to 60. In Google, I want Search Box to show typed search history. worked in v38. Does GreaseMonkey work?

more options

I want to see my typed search history contained in the search drop-down box. When I enter "g" in the search box, a list of all the words starting with "g" that I recently searched for used to appear such as GreaseMonkey. Why should I type all those letters? GreaseMonkey used to make the search drop-down box work in version 38.

Hi saberT388, do you mean on the classic small search bar, or on the main address bar? If you have Search Suggestions enabled, you'll see history on the search bar (example below), but I don't know if there is a way to get it on the address bar.

Using Firefox and the Google home page, Here is a typical Google search: LTSpice schematic capture software site:.edu. First I do that search then click in the search box type L and the LTSpice schematic capture software site:.edu entry is there, which I can then modify to Tina-TI schematic capture software site:.edu.

I do a lot of repeated searching using MY search words! I don't want Google helping me.

(1) You can edit your query in the search box in the Google results page.

(2) If you used Firefox's search bar, you can either edit your query in the search bar or use #1.

(3) If you used Firefox's address bar, you can use #1. You cannot edit your original query in the address bar because it shows the URL of the results page instead of what you originally entered.

Sorry, I was thinking of your Firefox search history.

If the problem is that Google is not showing your Google search history when you search, can you confirm that you are logged in to your Google account, and that your Web & App Activity / history is not "paused"?

I'm seeing something strange with Google search. When I'm logged out, I get suggestions, and when I'm logged in, nothing. Frustrating.

My settings look okay, but maybe I'm blocking something? I might need to create a new account to test.

Or perhaps it's part of a campaign to recruit more Chrome users...

Type transistor into the Firefox search box then the results appear. Close Firefox, then reopen Firefox, then type t into the search box and no transistor drops down. Logging into Google account did not help either. In version 38 I also used an app called GreaseMonkey.

Are you clearing history when closing Firefox? You can check your settings on the Options page:

  • Windows: "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options
  • Mac: "3-bar" menu button (or Firefox menu) > Preferences
  • Linux: "3-bar" menu button (or Edit menu) > Preferences
  • Any system: type or paste about:preferences into the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it

In the left column, click Privacy & Security. On the right side:

History section

  • Firefox will: Remember history => ok
  • Firefox will: Never remember history => problem
  • Firefox will: Use custom settings for history => next check

    • ✓ Remember search and form history => must be checked

    • ❒ Clear history when Firefox closes => not checked, or if it is checked, when you view "Settings" using the button on the right, "Form & search history" is not checked

In version 38 I also used an app called GreaseMonkey.

The Greasemonkey extension can run a wide variety of user scripts, including those you write yourself. These scripts could modify how web pages work (they wouldn't modify how the Firefox interface works).

Do you have any information on what user scripts you had installed before?

Did your Firefox perform a Refresh during the update and move your old settings folder to the desktop inside an Old Firefox Data folder?
