New Update 29 = Tabs not able to move bottom anymore. :(
Tabs in new update 29 do not move to bottom anymore, So I uninstalled 29 Went here http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/28.0b9/ downloaded the 32 win one and rerolled back to version 28, everything back to normal :). I'll wait till this is fixed in the about:config if ever or there is a fix that isn't too complicated. otherwise I may even move on. I have been a dedicated firefox user since netscape.
Chosen solution
Hi thanks yes it worked, but, why should I have had to add an addon? why is it firefox mozilla devs are getting rid of what we like and have preference for? I'm very aware of addons, My anger is based on there stupidity to get rid of stuff, which could and probably has got rid of some dedicated firefox users. I'm using the addon but I still would prefer if Firefox devs made some thoughful decisions when taking things away during updates. Thanks

The releases with "b" in the number are pre-release beta versions. If you are going to run Firefox 28, at least run the final release version.
(But Mozilla discloses security flaws after each new release, so it's not recommended to stick with 28.)
Since the about:config setting for "tabs on top" no longer works in Firefox 29+, here are two methods to change the position of the tab bar:
(1) userChrome.css file with custom style rule
See: FF29 has deactivated moving tabs to bottom
(2) Extension which reintroduces many of the features of Firefox 4-28

Not really what I want, I want to be able to use Firefox freely and do and edit it simply, your method of chrome.css is complicated and has no revelvance to reality. MOZILLA FIREFOX DEVS(dopes) needs to fix this! Why does Firefox Blow itself out the water all the time by messing around with itself, taking out simple enjoyable treats that we have come to enjoy is dumb and stupid. One other bad thing was when firefox took away our right to fully see whats in cache years ago, what did Firefox came up with was a complicated mess of a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, etc, etc, load of bullshit. Its like they see what we like to do and go take it away!!! Losing the tab editing movement was stupid. please fix it!
What FIREFOX editors should of done was place it in the editing area but thats just too simple isn't it.

If you are not satisfied with the Firefox 29 release, you can use the Firefox ESR, too. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/all/
zoli62 thx but I do not want to be side tracked down another path.
I want firefox to fix the problem of taking away and stop dividing the mass's. Simple really, just give us back our simple treat. I do not like reaching towards the sky. The new curved edged tab, which they probably spent years developing "a curved edge" they think they've created something "special". This just undermines the purpose of you being able to move your tabs to bottom easily. PLEASE FIX IT! thank you
zoli62
ESR isn't recommended for regular users but rather large corporations/organizations that are monitored by system administrators/IT.

As of right now, you have two options for the tabs on bottom approach
- Follow jscher's advice on using userChrome.css to add this
- https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/
If you don't feel like using Firefox 29 then you're free to use old unsupported and insecure versions of Firefox. Please however remember that puts your System and personal data at an increased risk. You may then wish to mitigate that by having well rehearsed bare metal restore strategies or using a virtual machine.

If you so desperately want to go back to 28, you can do so by doing a quick Google search!

Please change FF back to allow us to have the tabs to where we want them. DO NOT FORCE YOUR OPINIONS ON EVERYONE!!!!! You may think the top is best, but as usual, the 20 somethings are not always correct!!
oldhoss:
Why would Mozilla do that? That would be like taking one step forward with Australis then taking two steps back by reversing it. You're free to download any other version as long as you are aware of the risks. Mozilla only advises you to stay on the current version for bug fixes/patches. Look what happened to Internet Explorer. Also, I'll tell you the same thing I told resmenow:

You can ask in #sumo on IRC. This link will get you there
Just put the channel to #sumo and change your username if you wish.
Hi oldhoss, I don't know how many voices are needed to take development resources away from other projects for tabs on the bottom, but if you want to add your voice, please use either:
- Help > Submit Feedback

dear Moses, What a pompous reply, as usual, you MUST be correct, as your opinion, is the only one that counts
Hi oldhoss,
I'm sorry that you are unhappy with the new Firefox design. People helping here are volunteers and they are doing the best they can to help out Firefox users. If you feel strongly about the new changes I would suggest you to provide feedback on https://input.mozilla.org/feedback for the people who decided on the changes to actually see it.
Please keep in mind that Firefox is a work in progress and your feedback is very valuable for us to understand what can be done better!
When I install and run this addon and select tabs not on top they move down but I can't see the names of the tabs. All I see is a little bit of the top of the tabs so this moved them but now I can't see them. Please fix. Why remove the bottom feature? Just give the option to have both. Doesn't make sense to remove it.
Please give a screenshot from this issue that you have written.
This is the add on that I used: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/classicthemerestorer/
Here is the screenshot.
I also like the tabs below the address/URL bar. I really don't understand why we don't even have that option anymore in about:config?
I posted the problem and another member responded with this...
Try one of these.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/fdgueux-tabs-on-bottom/
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/tabs-on-bottom/
The first on worked for me -- now I'm happy! Also got a fix to make the tabs reappear. http://userstyles.org/styles/100627/outline-background-tabs-firefox-29-australis
The save tabs and quit option is gone. How do I get that back too?
Use this, till they fix it all back. Addon I'm using it, to fix tab movement problem, its still an addon and not what I expect from firefox devs. The reason this post has not been solved is I don't find using an "addon" as a solve to the problem, more like a future problematic subsidiary to it.
I went the route of modifying the userChrome.css file. It works, but the screen is very jittery at times, especially when using Ctrl+Shft+Del to clear the history, which I do several times a day. How can I get rid of the jittery screen effect?
Modified
Hi Yozilla, the jittery screen might be a different issue deserving a new thread. Does the display jitter while the dialog is displayed or while Firefox is clearing history?
The rows above seem to shift vertically when I clear the history. I always use the keyboard combination and never the drop down menu. The bookmark toolbar disappears then rewrites. If I were to describe it sequentially, I'd say that the lines I added to the userChrome.css file are executed after everything else, and the jittery screen is the rewrite as the userChrome.css file is applied. It never happened, even once before I added/edited the userChrome.css file. For the moment, it's preferable to not having the tabs on the bottom, but based on my research I can either revert back to the last version before FF29, or switch to Pale Moon, which as I understand it is pretty much Firefox anyway. The ideal solution would be for the FF developers to heed the discontent with FF29 and restore the ability to customize FF29, leaving options for those who want Australis and those who don't.
